Speaker's Bureau
Be a part of a multi-tied Speaker's Bureau.
Opportunities include: speaking at health fairs,
or working behind the scenes arranging speaking
engagements. Subjects could include:
volunteerism, victim testimonials, domestic
violence, sexual assult, etc.

Activity Leader/Assistant
Provide a safe and accepting environment and
positive role model for children. Design and
implement activities such as games, art projects,
story time, or assist teacher/group leader at Head
Start or the shelter.

  • Shelter - needs are mostly at night. Minimum
    time committment is 30 hours!
  • Head Start - needs are primarily during the
    daytime hours. Minimum commitment is
    15 hours - more is preferred!

  • Child Care
    Provide Child Care for children whose parent(s) are
    in group or meetings. Times vary.
    Family Circle
    Training: 1/2 HOUR + (depends on assignment)
    Minimum Time Committment: 10 - 15 hours.

    Be on a team of volunteers to help with specialized
    or on-going projects on as "as needed" basis. The
    projects may be at Head Start , OR THE Shelter , or
    other agency sites. Team Leaders for each area are also needed . The Family Circle's volunteer
    teams include:

  • Language translation: translate written
    materials, serve as an "on-call" interpreter
    for Spanish-speaking clients, or teach
    conversational Spanish to staff.
  • Publications Development/Distribution:
    Help write and design website, posters or
    brochures. Graphic design skills a plus.
    Help distribute posters around Winston-
    Salem - Spring & Fall
  • Landscaping/Maintenance: Help keep
    Family Services' sites beautiful and in good
    repair, or be a part of a team to do yard
    work or small repairs to a client's home.
  • Research Assistance: Research subject
    matters for various programs. It is
    helpful if you have access to college
    resources/libraries where scholarly
    journals can be found.
  • Donations Management: Help keep
    donated items organized.
  • Head Start child testing: Help with school
    testing and screening needs.
  • Phone Support/Clerical: Help cover
    phones while staff are in meetings or
    training sessions. Coverage is needed
    periodically for several hours at a time.
    Work on a regular basis in office
    completing small clerical tasks for
    different agency departments.
